The AX1-RM is an Attitude & Heading Reference system (AHRS). It is made of two separate components, communicating through a dedicated electrical interface: AX1-500, AX1-MSU. AX1-500 is an attitude sensor based on MEMS technology that combines linear accelerometers and rotational rate sensors to elaborate the inertial measurements. It then combines them with magnetic measurements coming from the AX1-MSU to basically implement an Attitude & Heading Reference system. The AX1-500 is the only interface to the aircraft systems. It provides digital outputs and can be used with advanced flight digital instruments. AX1-MSU is a remote magnetic sensing unit used to perform heading sensing by evaluating the direction in the local level frame of the Earth Magnetic Field vector.
Axitude AX1-RM units employ onboard digital processing to compensate for deterministic error sources within the unit and to compute attitude information. The AX1-RM uses angular rate sensors and linear acceleration sensors that are micro-machined devices. Solid-state MEMS sensors make the AX1-RM both responsive and reliable. The AX1-RM product belongs to the Axitude AX1-[] series of products. The AX1-[ ] Series of products utilize Kalman filter algorithms to allow the unit to track orientation accurately through dynamic maneuvers. The Kalman filter will automatically adjust for changing dynamic conditions without any external user input. No user intervention or configuration is required at power-up. The AX1-[ ] family has been qualified to meet the minimum requirements standards as: ETSO NUMBER: ETSO-C4c, ETSO-C6d SOFTWARE: ED-12B/DO-178B Level B COMPLEX HARDWARE : ED-80/DO-254 Level B ENVIRONMENTAL ED-14E/DO-160E
